As thrilling as this ancient
myth is, it has nothing whatsoever to do with our family name.
Actually, Minetor is a French
name, dating back to our ancestors' arrival at Ellis Island and so far
virtually untraceable in France. However, we believe that Minetor is an
Americanized spelling of miniatore, the title given to medieval
monks who hand-painted the rubric (red) into Scriptural manuscripts lettered
by their fellow brothers.
We find this a somewhat more
noble derivation than that of a half-human, half-animal carnivore who
snacks on vestal virgins...
